Today we decided to take Kayla sledding for the first time. We couldn't have been more pumped - a fun new activity to enjoy as a family!

Let's just say... it could've gone better. The highlight of the sledding for Kayla was the part when we were Not Sledding; the part where we were just standing in the kitchen all bundled up talking about the snow ("no! no! no!" Kayla says for snow). From there things went downhill fast. (Pun not intended).

Excitedly we all piled in the truck racing against time. We got to the hill, situated Kayla in her sled and pulled her from the parking lot to the top of the hill, she enjoyed every moment. Then Kristi and Kayla got on a sled together and off they went. I anxiously waited to hear the tale of how she loved every minute of it, but that's not what I heard.
Instead of laughter, there were tears. Kayla signed "all done". She'd had enough. But Kayla and I gave it one more shot. I held her tightly all the way down, saying "Yea! Isn't this fun?!" but through her tears she signed "all done" over and over. She wanted no more part of her sled, my sled, the snow, or anyone else sledding for that matter. It was time to go. The sledding had not gone as well as planned.

But what to do now after we spent all that time getting bundled up? It took us longer to get ready than it did sledding. So we all went for a full moon-lit walk in the woods behind our house. It was beautiful and quiet and serene. It was a great ending to a not-so great start.

So, no, hopefully it won't be her last time sledding this year. Just maybe her last time sledding downhill. I think we'll stick to pulling the sled around the front and backyards at a slow walking pace. That is, if we haven't scared her of sledding completely.

No talk of Aaron's space-age sledding contraption? He HAD to have got a sled for the occasion, right?
