Picture Perfect

Today was Kayla's 2-year well-baby appointment, something I always look forward to. It'd been a year since her last one (I think somehow we either skipped or forgot about an 18-month well-baby in there) so I was ready for our visit with Dr. Jessica. I was also a little nervous about how my 2-year old would react to getting a shot today compared to when she got her last shot as a 1-year old.

So the most thrilling part is getting Kayla's latest stats on her weight and height. This is the first time she stood on the BIG scale in the hallway and stood tall with her heels against the wall for her height. I was worried she might be intimidated by the unfamiliar equipment and with all the nurses standing over her smiling, staring, ooohing and ahhhing but she did it perfectly as if she knew this was her shining moment to be a big girl.

The stats: 30lbs and is 33.75" tall. This puts her at 70% for weight and 90% for height. These numbers and percentages don't mean a whole lot to most people, but it sure is exciting for a mom to hear!

Kayla did well the rest of the appointment, smiling at the nurse and the doctor, politely eating her raisins as they went about their check-up routine. As Dr. Jessica exclaimed, "She's just a picture perfect little girl!"

As for the shot, there were tears shed for awhile. She said, "Hurt, Mama, hurt. Knee hurt". Her knee was the closest thing she could identify next to her thigh, and probably, as a result of the shot, her knee really did hurt too. But, like with most things, she was distracted with four simple things:

Sucker.
Stroller ride.
Baby.
And a wet towel for the owwwie. (This was something new she asked for tonight. It seemed to do the trick. And then, suddenly, her baby had an owwwie on its foot and also needed a wet towel. As you can tell by her silly smile for the camera, her owwwie seems to be causing her tremendous grief).

Its always refreshing to hear that Kayla is doing well above the "benchmarks" for her age. It confirms what we already know - she's a healthy, happy growing little girl! We love you! Thanks for being our picture pefect Kayla Raine!
