Class is in session!

 Today was the FIRST day of the LAST year of preschool! Well, unofficially the "first day". Today was orientation day - a shortened day - parents were invited to attend too. Friday is the OFFICIAL first day! Kayla was excited to finally wear her new back-to-school dress which has been hanging untouched in her closet for a month. But, because it was rainy and 60 degrees this morning, the sleeveless dress was accessorized with tights and a sweater. Welcome, fall and school!

Kayla did great, finding her cubbie for her backpack, talking to all the same teachers from last year; I know she'll have another great year at Ross Bible Preschool. We weren't there but two minutes when she found the dress-up clothes corner and had a white wedding-type gown on and was making water for Khloe and I. There was only one moment of a quivering lip when she claimed another girl wasn't sharing the grocery cart with her but then seconds later she ran off smiling and was into something else entirely. This year the four-year-old class has a little more structure to it: show-n-tell on Mondays, curriculum lessons on Wednesdays, and choir and library on Fridays.

The best part of going back to school? Making "rice kripees" treats with cookie cutter shapes as a special after-school snack!

I felt the weight this morning, standing in the middle of her classroom, of what it might feel like to send her off to full-day Kindergarten next year. It's hard to imagine! But, then I quickly blinked the thought away and enjoyed the moment - this exact moment - of my baby in preschool.
